As reported on Matzav.com last night, Rav Plutchok had been hospitalized after contracting the coronavirus/COVID-19.

A close talmid of Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg zt”l, Rav Plutchok founded Derech Chaim together with his late brother-in-law, Rav Mordechai Rennert zt”l. For the last four decades, he led the yeshiva, located at 16th Avenue and 39th Street in Boro Park, with tremendous dedication.

  1. My beloved Rosh hayeshiva. Since 1975 he and R Mordechai Rennert were the founders of the yeshiva first located @ 4907 18TH Avenue then in March of 1988 the yeshiva has been at it’s current address

  2. The Yeshiva was originally located in Boro Park on 18th Avenue, between 49th and 50th streets, in Rabbi Horowitz’s shul. The next door neighbor of the Yeshiva was Reb Gershon Weiss ZTL.

  3. Ein temurah.
Rav Plutchok’s dedication to his talmidim was legendary. His life of mesiras nefesh is beyond our grasp. His determination to build Torah knew no bounds. Just look at what he accomplished!

  4. My grandfather was a giant of a person. He was a Gadol B’yisroel and a geibor in every way. His love for k’lall yisroel, commitment to serving Hashem, his joy for life, and playfulness will stay with me forever.

    • I assume he was your grandfather.. please know that you are not alone. The whole of klal yisroel is mourning with you. This is a terrible loss for everyone. We have lost some great giants the last few days but the light in this dark tunnel seems to be that hkb”h is preparing us for something very big; you will see him soon iyh.. Lets hope we are taka zoche to eat this pesach min hapsachim umin hazvachim…

  5. As a former Talmid back in the days when the yeshiva was still small on 18 ave and 49 st in 1976 where the Rosh yeshiva at times stood outside to call in a tenth for a minyan. There were the four rebbes. Reb Yisroel and reb mordechai Rennert ztl and rav Meir Platnik and reb Yitzchok Yarmush. All sweet tzaddikim who inspired Talmidim in ways of the Torah. It was about Torah and koved Shemayim. May the Rosh yeshiva open the gates for the final Geulah and bring simcha to Klal Yisroel.

  6. I will never forget his amazing strength in avodas hashem with such stregnth and determination. What an amazing neighbor he was. I also remember how he was on Purim after he reached Ad Dilo Yada at the Aleska shul. Such power such strength sharin g his knowledge in Torah and Yirah. Please Reb Yisroel go up there and be mailitz yosher on all of us.

  7. He was a true gadol. I had the honor of being his Talmid for over thirty years. Together with his brother- in law Rabbi Rennert zatzal they built an amazing Makom Hatorah. May he be a Meilitz Yoshor for us all. A true Gentle Giant in every sense of the word.
