yitzchok-kleiman-3[Reposted, see below. Levaya info below.] It is with great sadness that we report the passing moments ago of Rav Yitzchok Kleiman, rosh kollel of Kollel Iyun Hatalmud of Lakewood, NJ. He was 71.

Rav Kleimen underwent brain surgery earlier this month at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ, and was in a http://matzav.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gifmedically-induced coma for the last few weeks.

Rav Kleiman was formerly rosh yeshiva of the Yeshiva of St. Louis, known as St. Louis Rabbinical College, and later opened Kollel Iyun Hatalmud in Lakewood. He was a prominent talmid of Rav Shmuel Brudny zt”l and Rav Shmuel Berenbaum zt”l at the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn and was known as an illui. He was recognized for his wide breadth of Torah knowledge and intense hasmadah.

His passing leaves the Olam Hatorah in mourning.

The wedding of a grandchild of Rav Kleinman is taking place this evening in Lakewood.

The levaya will take place tomorrow morning in Lakewood, NJ. Further details will be posted once they are finalized.

Rav Kleiman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dina Kleinman; his father, R’ Sidney Kleiman; his brother, R’ Seymour Kleiman; and his children, R’ Baruch Ber Kleiman, R’ Heshy Kleiman, R’ Daniel Kleinman, R’ Shmuel Kleinman and Mrs. Nechoma Scherman.

Note: News of the petirah was removed from Matzav.com by request of the family for the duration of the wedding of Rav Kleiman’s granddaughter, as members of the family were not to be informed of the petirah until after the wedding. The story was re-posted following the wedding.

  1. ONCE AGAIN TRAGEDY STRIKES AGAIN BY HASHEM

are we going to EVER get hashems wake-up call for teshuva? -as tzaddikim are being niftar younger & younger-or will we just let it pass & think we can fool Hashem like we don’t know why such tragic events happen R”L?

TZAROS in klal yisroel is getting worse & worse by the day ALL due to one reason
HASHEM IS WAITING FOR US TO RETURN TO HIM & DO TESHUVA SO HE CAN BRING MASHIACH & RETURN TO US.
HOW much more tzaros will need to happen C”V before we do teshuva? that is up to us. it can all end today.

MAY HIS NESHAMA HAVE AN ALIYA & may we all do teshuva so these tragedies never happen again C”V

  2. There are no words to adequately express my Hakoras Hatov to Reb Yitzchok Z’TL for all that he has done not only for my husband, but I’m sure I speak for all of us wives who were Zoche to belong to the St.Louis Rabbinical college Kollel. There is much to say but to sum it up I will quote my husband who always says “If there would be more Yeshivos like St. Louis there would be WAY less teens at risk.” May Reb yitzchok be a Meilitz Yosher for Gantz Klall Yisroel and hasten the Geulah!

  3. Oy we lost another tzadik! What a great person- such a talmid chochom, such a masmid, such a tzadik, such a wonderful personality…chaval chaval

  4. welcome to the generation of constant tragedies R”L

ANOTHER 2 tzaddikim have left the world TODAY ALSO
    1)Rabbi Yosef Wineberg, 94 Z”L; Chabad’s ‘Globetrotting Ambassador’

2)Rebbe of Nadvorne chadere in Israel niftar at 98

What a tragedy we caused cause we cant get our act together & do teshuva

WHAT ARE WE ALL WAITING FOR? has klal yisroel gotten the message from Hashem-waiting for us to start doing teshuva-have YOU done anything yet? how many more tragedies & Tzaddikim will it take C”V before we wake up & start doing teshuva? OVER 90 GEDOLEI HADOR have passed away within the past 15 months R”L. HOW MANY MORE DO WE NEED TO LOSE C”V to let hashem know that we get the message for klal yisroel to start doing teshuva ASAP?

note:lots of the gedolim this past year were niftar R”L in the 70?s or 80?s this was not enough to wake us up to teshuva
BOTTOM LINE:people are starting to die younger & younger cause 79 (Rebetzin kanievsky, Rabbi Tendler Zt”l & the spinka rebbe of yerushalyim ZT”L)
was not young enough to wake us up to start doing teshuva.
HOW YOUNG will it take for us to get the message from Hashem for everyone-myself included-to start doing teshuva & return to Hashem? Klal Yisroel already lost a big tzaddik at the young age of 37 while he was learning over a sefer Rabbi akiva ehrenfeld ZT”L & son of mattesdorfer rav.
after this it went to 2 boys both niftar at the young age of 13 R”L

  5. St Louis would NEVER have shteiged & become an emesdika mokom Torah like it is today without the Rish Yeshiva. He was the one who made sure that Torah Prep got off the ground – beginning with the meeting in his office in May of 87, and he did it knowing full well that it was going to be the Yeshiva or the cheder.

BH the influence of the yeshiva was there without the physical yeshiva, which helped St Louis grow.

  6. The l’vaya will take place on Thursday, in BMG Lakewood during Bain Ha’sdorim, which is around 2p EDT.

A number of out of town alumni have asked about a voice hookup. It looks like the l’vaya will be on Kol HaLoshon. The USA number is 718-906-6400 or in E’Y its (03) 929-0709. If you are in neither of those places, check out the Kol Halashon (www.kolhalashon.com) website for your local number.

Shiva will be at 678 – 14th Street (Lakewood). Z’manay tfila are not available yet.

We should all only share simchas!!

  7. Can anyone please post the Jewish name of the Ravztz”l. I have nebbuch a very long refuah shlaimah list and I want to put O”H by his shem hakadosh.

  9. Having spent many years in St Louis together with the husband of “A Very Grateful Wife” I must echo what she wrote. The reason there would be fewer teens at risk is that the St Louis Yeshiva was an environment in which each Bachur could grow in his own way, with his own Kochos, while still receiving intense hadracha in learning and mussar under the tutelage of a Rosh Yeshiva who could relate to each bachur.

  10. Additionally, I would add that in many ways Rav Kleiman considered Rav Shmuel Brudney to be his Rebbe Muvhak, as well as the Mirrer Mashgiach Rav Feldman.

  11. BD”E
To all the Kleimans may u hear from now on only simchas,i will always remember his great chumash rashi shiurim during my time in St Louis yeshivah.Zol er melits yosher zein oyf die ganze mishpoche……

  12. May The Torah of Rav Barouch Ber ztl, which found a home, hosted and honored in the Aron Hakodesh of Torah She Baal Peh – the mind of R’Yitzhok Klieman ztl stand testimony for him before the Kisay Hakavod. Unparalleled mastery of these shiurim, their intricacies, resolutions and dissemination have benefited a world who would otherwise never have understood them or been aware of the existence of their sheer depth of range and scope.
To his mishpoha; Hamakom Yenachem Eschem B’soch Shaar Avaylay Zion Ou’Yeroshalayim

  13. I pen these words with great sorrow, after learning about the Petirah of Moiri, Rebbi, Reb Yitzchok Kleinman ZT”L The Rosh Yeshiva never had a large Yeshiva the most maybe 50-60 Bochrim. I’m not sure that there will ever be a book written or a dinner about him to commerate his accomplishments.
Reb Yeruchum says there is something the Bala Batim don’t understand the idea far reaching affects, something that will affect people later on.
The book of the Rosh Yeshiva while it might never be in print, it is still being written. It is being written by his Talmidim and his Talmidims Talmidim, by the Askanim and the Baale Tzadakah who came out of the yeshivah, a regular Bochur who married, raised children and lives a simple Ehrliche life, with a special kind of Simchas Hachaim that most people will never know.
St. Louis was a place where no matter what type of Bochur you were, and no matter what type of self-esteem you had (or didn’t)have made all of us feel like we were someone special!
I can go on and on about the Yeshivah and the Rosh Yeshivah ZT”L. We were ridiculed and made fun of in the 70’s and the 80’s. But no matter what we stuck together, a Yeshiva producing Feineh Baale Baatim and Talmidim who till today continue to affect people’s lives around the globe, but most of all instilling in us a love of Torah and Tefilla, without getting caught up with labels and other Naarishkeit. May the Rosh Yeshiva be a Meilitz Yosher for his Mishpacha, his Talmidim and K’lall Yisroel,
    Benny Wielgus

  14. AGREE WITH #3 of which I am one who benefited from this as well. The talmiydim the the “Rosh” had were people I as a young high school kid (and younger then that since I was in YBY day camp which a lot of SLRC buchrim came to) could look up to and want to emulate – Reb Tzvi, Chaim S., Joe Flo, Neil Tepper, R’ Benny W., Avi Neubs, the Mesners, VETO zt’l, Ari J, and of course BB and Hesh. May he be a meylitz yosher for his family, his talmiydim and the entire klal yisroel.

  15. If I may add to what my brother wrote one of the great things about St.Louis that is so lacking today is that top notch Bachurim felt just as comfortable in the Yeshivah as some as the ” not yet great Bachurim”. It was not a yeshivah for the metzuyanim or the “weak” bochurim it was a yeshiva where all types got along and shteiged. Many of those metzuyanim are Rosh Yehshivas and Marbeitzei torah today.

  16. Dovid (comment #5): “OVER 90 GEDOLEI HADOR have passed away within the past 15 months R”L.”

    Huh???

Don’t get carried away. Not everyone who’s passing is mentioned in the newspaper is a ‘gadol hador’.

  17. to FYI

6 weeks ago in the Yated Ne’eman they listed approxamtely 80 gedolim & rabbonim worldwide
(all of them roshei yeshiva, gedolei Hador & rabbonim of shuls etc…)

tragically 6 weeks later 10 more have already been niftar (most of them in they’re 70 or 80’s R”L)

    DO YOUR RESEARCH

MAY YOU & ALL OF KLAL YISROEL start to take these tragedies seriously & do some teshuva about it so it can be stopped ASAP

    WE NEED OUR GEDOLIM

  18. it’s hard to ‘feel’ his p’tira…..since his presence, his impact, was so powerful, and so reassuring. I worked with Rabbi Kleiman many years, knew his family, and some of his friends, but I think I knew him at his best….though I admit I am not referring to his Torah, since I was not zoiche’ to be his talmid.

Last shabbos, I ‘found’ myself explaning and defending some of Rabbi Kleiman’s more demonstrative and controversial issues….because I understood him, his hashkafa, and appreciated his tremendous kesher to true Torah values. Thank G-d, I was at least zoiche to come close to Rabbi Kleiman through our working together, it was an experience like no other, and a lesson I’ll never forget, regret, nor fully appreciate, till we meet again in olam ha’emes, may Rabbi Kleiman’s neshama merit many many aliyas always,

  19. His name for tehillim as requested by a poster was Yitzchok Menachem Mendel ben Hadassah.
    Chaval al D’avdin v’loh Mishtakchin.
