Israeli Sephardic Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchok Yosef said during his weekly Motzoei Shabbos shiur that women must not serve in the IDF or in national service, and certainly not in combat roles.

Ynet reports that Rav Yosef mentioned a ruling made by the Rambam that “to wars commanded by the Torah all go out, even a chosson from his chamber and a kallah from her chupah.” Rav Yosef said that one must not draw from this ruling the conclusion that women are allowed to join the military.

“It’s obvious that women who went there went to do the laundry,” he explained. “They didn’t wear uniforms and pants and the likes, of course not. They went in modesty, in purity.”

“They (women) go to cook and do laundry, but, heavens forbid, to the army? To go and fight? Of course not!” Rav Yosef added. “It is the ruling of all the great rabbis of the generations, including Israel’s chief rabbis, the position of the Chief Rabbinate—it has always been their position that girls must not enlist in the army… (Today) there are female pilots, all sorts of stuff. Is that the way of the Torah?! That’s not the way of the Torah.”

    • Dangerous IDF Experiment’ on Female Soldiers Alleged

“Unfortunately, the IDF is conducting a dangerous experiment on these girls in the name of feminism.”

Common injuries include hip stress fractures, ruptured discs and uterine prolapse, he said. “Combat service just shatters them,” he concluded..

Sagi has made similar claims in the past. He challenged the IDF to release its data, which he said will prove him right..

His goal, he said, is to keep the IDF strong and to make sure that combat ability remains the foremost goal. “I’m trying to protect the backbone of the IDF from bizarre decisions that have nothing to do with state security,”

“The idea that men and women should be equal when it comes to military service is an absurdity that has been disproven in every army on earth,” Sagi continued. “It’s evolution, there’s no way to change it.”

  1. Women in the army do not keep us safe. They make it more dangerous for Klal Yisroel. Of course you have to believe that Hashem, not the IDF protects us.

  2. If yeshiva high schools are not providing vocational options for young men & women, they look to the army for this training especially women who joined the Air Force.
