Okay. So let’s say someone gets the Coronavirus r”l. He stays the mandatory 14 days in quarantine. Now the 14 days are over and he’s feeling 100% perfect. Can HE go out to public places or can he catch it again? Does he become immune to the virus at that point? If not, so will this virus keep circulating till the end of time?! Will we all die from this?
No, he —- well better get himself tested. The 14 day quarantine is only for those suspected of having the virus, and was established before it became known that this slippery virus can incubate for much longer, over two weeks. If a person is sick, he had better make sure he’s no longer contagious before he can go out. Presumably, a person is immune once he recovers, but this virus is not only new it’s a man-made hybrid, we just don’t know so much more than we do know. However, anyone who goes out, with even the slightest suspicion that he has the virus, is simply a public menace, meaning מזיק ברבים. This is serious business.
No one knows for sure, but the Chinese are not allowing Wuhan to reopen. All people who completrd quarantine may go out (for “approved” reasons) but must wear face masks outside, and no return to normality is in sight.
Perhaps this virus will keep circulating until Moshiach.
Simply put, not enough time has passed since the original discovery to answer any of those questions. So now that you know that we don’t know the answers, here is some techno-babble.
The best that can be done is to look at precedent. The original SARS (this virus is just another form of SARS) would leave a recovered patient (who had “normal” non-compromised immune system) with measurable anti-bodies for two years. (And even then, the level of anti-bodies does not provide definitive proof of immunity.) The second question is how fast the virus mutates to a new form. Again, the precedent (such as the common cold, which is of the same family) is every year or two.
And another problem is that while “normally” a recovered patient “should be” immune to the same virus for at least year, the stories have been circulating that a small number of recovered patients had been tested and still shown to be infected. It is an open question as to why these recovered patients tested positive (it could be the positive tests were bad tests, or that the patients had not “really” recovered, etc.)
I am confused, a letter was put out By Dr. Roth and 9 other Doctors from Lakewood that said very clearly everyone should stay at home. Who is hiding anonymously here? Also, quite clearly, this message may not be more that the opinion of a local physician as opposed the consensus.
