  1. I would like to thank you for not posting excessively about this pandemic and causing panic like other sites are doing. Just the information we need to help protect ourselves and our community. Thank you!

  2. A couple things to remember, we live in a time with modern medicine, cholera is very treatable today by making sure the patient does not dehydrate. Dehydration is the cause of death in cholera.

With Covid19 the numbers don’t support the drastic measures being taken. We are NOT seeing massive deaths that we would expect from any deadly outbreak. The research actually does not indicate that we are is a stage that requires closing shuls. Read the entire Teshuva and you will see that it says to daven in small minyanim of 15 people.

  3. Ltoeles Harabim: For anyone currently hospitalized ch”v from coronavirus, there is a drug called Remdesivir by Gilead Sciences that is in stage 3 trials and has shown to be effective in treating serious cases of coronavirus. It’s not yet FDA approved(although that might change very soon be’H) but can be requested under “compassionate use”. For more information here is a link: https://www.gilead.com/purpose/advancing-global-health/covid-19

  4. Cholera wiped out cities…….killed 40-50 percent and was indiscriminate of age and health status. It was literally skanas nefashos. It is very different form what we are facing.

  5. CONTEXT!!!!
did u read the teshuva knowing the backround 5000 people R”L had died in posenaBEFORE this teshuva was written , their knowledge of medicine & ability to communicate was minuscule by todays standards
we must compare apples to apples

  6. Cholera used to be a very dangerous disease, but transmitted in a manner which hygiene precautions can eliminate. We can wash our hands countless times, but covid-19 can be transmitted by asymptomatic carriers via “droplets” i.e. talking is enough.

  7. The translation is that during the cholera outbreak in Poland in the 19th century Rav Eiger said that minyonim should continue in open spaces no more than 15 people to a minyan and keep a distance between each person. The same 15 people should always daven together to keep any contamination within those people.
It is very dangerous to stop minyonim completely. Minyonim give us protection. Think of the destruction of Sodom.

  8. The translation of what rav Eiger is saying here is that people should continue to daven in a minyan in open spaces no more than 15 people to each minyan and to keep a distance between each person. The same 15 people should always daven together to keep any contamination within those people.
A minyan gives protection. Think of the destruction of Sodom.
