Hmm. Rav Chaim says not to rely on ‘שומר פתאים ד. He says we cannot be מיקל on ונשמרתם. Maybe the covid deniers can explain to me what he is referring to? What danger is there? He must not be referring to an illness that is not dangerous, so what danger is he referring to? Are the פתאים he is referring to those who do wear masks? Even if you claim that there are other Gedolim who disagree with Rav Chaim, are you so confident that you call Rav Chaim’s opinion ‘sheeple’? Even if you choose to distort Rav Chaim’s intentions, there is a mefurashe משנה ברורה which Rav Chaim quoted recently during the current pandemic which clearly shows (at least some of) his intention.
The Chofetz Chaim in his Mishna Berura in Biur Halacha (‘סימן תקנ”ד סעיף ו) writes in the name of the sefer Pischei Olam that in the time when cholera is not spreading terribly, if one fasts he should not leave home. If he does we must FORCE him to cover his nose and mouth with a cloth. (ולהכריחו כשיצא ישא סביב לחוטמו ופיו חתיכה קאמפע”ר ומעט מיאט”ע.) Regardless of whether covid exists, it is clear that the Chofetz Chaim paskened that masks are not deadly or dangerous. Do you think that you know better, and that it is pashut that masks are dangerous? Would you have chas vesholom called the Chofetz Chaim a sheeple? (Rav Chaim quoted this during the “first wave” of covid in Eretz Yisroel. He said that the chiyuv to wear masks (at that time) is not his psak but that of the משנה ברורה. His intentions are pretty clear regarding masks.)
It is time to be honest with yourselves, and even if you rely on Gedolim, respect those who rely on the Chofetz Chaim and some of today’s greatest Gedolim. Do yourselves a big favor.
From my experience, even those who respond to my comments never answer my questions. They only call those who don’t agree with them all kinds of names and ignore my point that the Chofetz Chaim and many (maybe not all) Gedolim pasken like the people they call ‘sheeple’. Interesting. It seems that they have no answer so they just respond like modern day politicians who avoid answering tough questions and go on to knock others instead.
