[COMMUNICATED]

A handwritten letter and accompanying statement were released from Rav Chaim Kanievsky  earlier this week regarding an anonymous individual who is, in the words of the Rav, “suffering terribly.” Sources connected to Kupat Ha’Ir confirm that the individual has dedicated their life to helping the Jewish People, and that his situation is now very serious. The statement is as follows [translated from Hebrew]:

“Our friend, who involves himself with the needs of the public, has encountered much hardship. He is suffering terribly, and because he has dedicated his life for all Klal Yisroel I ask of each person in turn to donate … to the fund that has been set up for him in Kupat Hair. All those who help should see blessing and good in all their requests. – Rav Chaim Kanievsky”

Those familiar with the system in place at the home of Rav Chaim know that each day hundreds shuffle in and out for consultation. For this reason, Rav Kanievsky and his gabbaim have a comprehensive awareness of the suffering present in the Jewish people today. This makes it all the more striking that the Rav has chosen to identify this particular individual’s case as being worthy of constituting its own urgent appeal. It is also notable that the statement calls not only on those who are able to give, but instead places responsibility on “each person” to participate in saving his life.

Though the details remain concealed, the urgency is clearly displayed. To quote the full statement, donors “[j]oin the Rav in helping, and bring into your own life Rav Kanievsky’s blessing for “blessing and good,” together with all of the other brachos which come with responding to the urgent requests of the Gedolei HaDor.”
