shlomo-yehudah-rechnitzLast night, Yeshiva Torah Vodaath celebrated its 95th annual dinner with a packed crowd of past alumni, present parents and a broad spectrum of current supporters, who gathered in The Palace in Brooklyn to show their loyalty and allegiance to the institution often referred to as the Mother of American Yeshivos. The yeshiva, which has experienced tremendous growth in both quantity and quality over the last few years, honored some of their past graduating classes, esteemed alumnus, and parents of current Talmidim.

Yet the surprise highlight of the evening was an unscheduled announcement by Rabbi Yitzchok Gottdiener, Executive Director of the yeshiva. Rabbi Gottdiener began his brief words by enlightening the gathering of some new developments in the financial sector of the Mosad. The Leadership Circle, a new group of dedicated donors formed to help with the strategic planning of the future finances, was recently established. They have to date already successfully obtained multi-year pledges totaling in excess of one million dollars for future scholarships and expansion of programs. In addition, Rabbi Gottdiener informed the audience that with the dinner committee working until the last hours before the start of the event, the night’s donations exceeded last year’s successes, with another million dollars raised.

“Friday afternoon,” said Rabbi Gottdiener, “I spoke with Reb Shlomo Yehudah Rechnitz, the world renown philanthropist who last year spoke so passionately of the devotion of his Shver, our Rosh HaYeshiva HaRav Belsky shlit”a, describing how he is Moser Nefesh for the Klal and the Yachid. At last year’s dinner, Reb Shlomo Yehudah gave the yeshiva the largest single gift in the history of Torah Vodaas. I spoke with Reb Shlomo Yehuda for about half an hour, describing the wonderful response we had for this year’s dinner, and how we have been energized in our quest to set the yeshiva on sound financial footing.”

“I want people to understand,” said Reb Shlomo Yehudah, “that you have to strain yourself for the future, and I am heartened that you have received future pledges for a million dollars. It’s also satisfying to hear that this year’s dinner raised the same amount. Although before Pesach, I discussed with my wife the intention of giving a substantial gift to the yeshiva, I have currently decided to gift the yeshiva, for the Kavod of the yeshiva and the Rosh HaYeshiva, the sum of $1,000,000.”

With the announcement ending, the crowd burst out with a spontaneous standing ovation, which was soon accompanied with singing and dancing in honor of this magnanimous donation.

Once again, as in years past, Reb Shlomo Yehudah Rechnitz blazes the trail as he sets new standards for Tzedaka and philanthropy. Time and time again, he has shown that giving of his own resources for the honor of Hashem and His Torah, is not limited to a single occasion. His dedication for giving with such a gracious heart and open hand knows no bounds, as he once again sets an example others to follow.
