candle-small4It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Reb Shmuel Shindler z”l at the age of 77. Reb Shmuel, a son of Reb Fishel and Mrs. Faigie Shindler, grew up in Williamsburg and was the owner of the popular Shindler’s Fish Company. Reb Shmuel was a beloved member of the Stoliner kehillah of Boro Park and was well-known for his selfless nature and gemillus chassodim.

In 1989, Shindler’s Fish Inc. began in the New York metro area as a local distributor of fresh and frozen seafood products. The company has grown since then, and in 1996 the company added a Baltimore, MD processing and distribution facility.

Reb Shmuel and his wife Barbara, to whom he was married for 55 years, merited to raise a family of bnei Torah and prominent askonim. Their children are Reb Yitzchok Shindler, a respected psychologist in the Flatbush community; Reb Eli Shindler, a Flatbush Hatzolah member; Mrs. Chani Wilner of Baltimore; and Reb Betzalel Shindler, who runs his father’s company; and many ainiklach who follow in his ways.

Reb Shmuel is also survived by his brother, Mr. Charlie Shindler of Far Rockaway.

The levaya will take place at Shomrei Hachomos Chapels, located at 4218 Fort Hamilton Parkway in Boro Park at 11 a.m.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. BD”E. Didn’t really know the Niftar but know his sons and in them you can see what a special person their father A”H must have been. A family always smiling, calm in nature, always doing chesed, a kind warm word for everyone they meet and a genuine desire to do for others.

  2. time for teshuva

people are starting to die younger & younger cause 79 (Rebetzin kanievsky, Rabbi Tendler Zt”l & the spinka rebbe of yerushalyim ZT”L)
was not young enough to wake us up to start doing teshuva.

HOW YOUNG will it take for us to get the message from Hashem for everyone-myself included-to start doing teshuva & return to Hashem? Klal Yisroel already lost a big tzaddik THIS WEEK at the young age of 37 while he was learning over a sefer Rabbi akiva ehrenfeld ZT”L & son of mattesdorfer rav.

MAY WE START DOING TESHUVA ASAP SO MASHIACH CAN COME

  3. Reb Shmuel, someone I knew for nearly forty years personified the Yid that the Aibershter wants of us all: a moikir Torah to enth degree, a Moikir Rabanan, a yid for Ahavas Yisroel was his life. He loved every Yid; never had a bad word to say about anybody even of those who cut him in business (I don’t use the word the velt uses! VeDa”L) He always saw the good in people and was always beSimcha. Even when his pains were so, so unbearable and he needed to show it cuz that’s how humans are, he tried to hide it! He lived life like a Yid! He had even hired a choshuver yungerman (I’m withholding his name – those who know, know) to learn with him even when he had to run a business.(I hope the family won’t be makpid that I’m saying this cuz he chose a day when hespedim are not made to ensure that no one would be maspid him.) The years before Shindler’s Fish, when his business was The House of Shindler, he ran the business with amazing adherence to halacha even though the nature of the business wasn’t exactly deserving of, let’s say a choicey hecher – TONGUE IN CHEEK. He had an amazing love for Teffila and even when it was so hard to get to Shul, he made sure to get there.
Ah Reb Shmuel, we’ll miss seeing you, although not so the legacy you left behind and lessons we lwearned from you.
Hopefully your choshuver children, who made sure to always be there with you during davening and even checked in on you on Yom Kippur during earlier years, will continue to grace our Kehilla with occasional visits! Reb Shmuel, we will miss you! May your almana and your shvigger tichyu have the Koach and simcha to continue your lifestyle.
Please be a mailitz Yosher for our whole Dor!
