It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rabbi Yosef Aryeh Luria zt”l, a prominent member of the Vizhnitzer community of Monsey, NY.

Born shortly before the outbreak of World War II, Rav Yosef Aryeh’s parents were Rav Dovid Mordechai and Esther Luria. They moved from Tzefas to Toronto and Rav Dovid Mordechai was appointed as the mara d’asra of Adas Yeshurun.

Rav Yosef Aryeh was a talmid of the Pupa Rov zt”l and was recognized for his learning prowess at a young age. He married his eizer kenegdo, Bracha, nee Rosenberg, in the early 1960s and the young couple resided in Williamsburg before settling in Monsey, where Rav Yosef Aryeh became one of the staunchest chassidim and supporters of the current Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Monsey, Rav Mordechei Hager, helping to establish, lead and expand the Vizhnitzer mosdos as a member of the hanhalah and as a devoted chossid.

His wife, Bracha, passed away about 16 years ago and Rav Yosef Aryeh remarried to Baila Greenbaum.

Rav Yosef Aryeh passed away yesterday, on his 76th birthday.

He leaves behind his rebbetzin, Baila; his children, Reb Yitzchok, Reb Shmuel, Reb Yisroel, Reb Binyomin Zev, Reb Chaim Meir, Reb Yehoshua and Reb Dovid Mordechai Mrs. Reizel Braunstein, Mrs. Blima Brettler, Mrs. Chana Rosenfeld, Mrs. Rochel Leah Tessler, and many ainiklach.

Yehi zichro boruch.
