Chassidim of the Modzitz dynasty regularly visit the Polish city of Kazimierz Dolny (Kuzmir) and daven in the middle of a sports field built over the kever of the dynasty’s founder, Rav Yechezkel Taub of Kuzmir (1755–1856).

The cemetery surrounding his tomb was destroyed by the Nazis during World War II.

Efforts to restore the beis hachaim are led by Shlomo Tzvi Hirsch Taub, a seventh-generation descendant, who says the Poles knew they were desecrating a cemetery when they built the sports field a few years ago.

Ground penetrating radar has confirmed the presence of the rebbe‘s tomb together with kevorim of a son and grandson.

Helping him is Meir Bulka, head of an organization that works to restore Europe’s Jewish heritage with the cooperation of local authorities. Bulka verified the cemetery’s location from records and from speaking to the local population.

  1. So can they relocate the kever? The Poles are obviously not going to knock down their stadium just for some hated Jews. If they do have to relocate, would they bring it to Eretz Yisroel?
