It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Chavah Esther Lefkowitz a”h. She was 98 years old. The petirah took place on Friday, the first day of Chol Hamoed in Eretz Yisroel.

The Rebbetzin was the wife of Rav Michel Yehudah Lefkowitz zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh L’tzeirim in Bnei Brak.

The rebbetzin was born in Poland to Rav Avrohom Yitzchok and Rebbetzin Sarah Bailah Gershonowitz. Rav Avrohom Yitzchok was the rov of Zobinka in Poland and subsequently rosh yeshiva of Tiferes Tzion in Bnei Brak.

The match between Rav Michel Yehuda and the rebbetzin was made by none other than the Chazon Ish shortly before World War II.

The levayah was held on Erev Shabbos and kevurah took place at the Ponovezher Bais Hachaim in Bnei Brak, next to the kever of Rav Michel Yehudah, who was niftar about six years ago.

The Rebbetzin leaves behind her children, Rav Moshe Dovid Lefkowitz, Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Lefkowitz, Rebbetzin Tovah Karlinsky, Rebbetzin Leah Elyashiv, and Rebbetzin Brachah Faigah Schwartz; as well as ainiklach and ur-ainiklach following in her ways.
