It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rebbetzin Chaya Ausband a”h. She was 96 years old.

Rebbetzin Ausband was the wife of Rav Eizik Ausband zt”l, rosh yeshivah of Telshe Yeshiva of Cleveland.

Rebbetzin Ausband was a daughter of the great rov and rosh yeshiva of Telshe in Lithuania, Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Bloch zt”l, one of the leading pre-Holocaust gedolei Torah in Europe.

Rebbetzin Ausband was one of three of Rav Bloch’s daughters to survive the Holocaust. (One married Rav Boruch Sorotzkin zt”l, later rosh yeshiva of Telshe.)

Rebbetzin Ausband founded Yavneh Seminary in Cleveland and was a renowned and venerated mechaneches.

Her dedication to chinuch habanos and her knowledge and skills as a pedagogue were unmatched. The ahavah that she had for her talmidos and the care that she showed to her husband’s talmidim were products of her generous heart and sensitive nature. She imbued ahavas haTorah and ahavas Hashem in generations of bnos Yisroel, giving them the foundational tools to later establish botim ne’emanim b’Yisroel.

Rebbetzin Ausband is survived by her children, Rav Avrohom Ausband, rosh yeshiva of the Yeshiva of Telshe Alumni of Riverdale; Rav Eliyahu Ausband, noted mechanech in Cleveland; Rav Eliezer Ausband, rebbi at Yeshiva Degel Hatorah of Monsey; Rav Chaim Mordechai Ausband, R”M at Yeshiva Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak; Rebbetzin Goldberg, wife of Rav Dovid Goldberg, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Telshe-Cleveland; Rebbetzin Leah Burstzyn, wife of Rav Eliyahu Bursztyn, rov of Khal Ner Dovid and R”M at Mesivta of Lakewood; Rebbetzin Shapiro, wife of Rav Binyomin Shapiro; Rebbetzin Rassie Bresler, wife of Rav Moshe Bresler of Yerushalayim; and Rebbetzin Sori Finkel, wife of Rav Yitzchok Finkel of Yerushalayim.

Rav Eizik was niftar approximately eight years ago.

The levayah will be held at the Farmingdale Airport in Long Island at 1 p.m. today. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah on Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim tomorrow.

The levayah can be joined via teleconference by calling 857.356.3300 or 612.398.0330 (no access code required). Alternate call-in numbers: 701.802.5148, access code 2229583, or 701.802.5153, access code 4088754.

A regal woman who carried her father’s legacy with great Kavod.

A true Ashes Chaver, Mother, Bubby, and Rebbetzin to all her Talmidim and Talmidos.

She will advocate strongly for Klal Yisroel whom she so dearly loved.

  3. My morah too. I will never forget how she said “for a million dollars I wouldn’t go through the war again, but for a million dollars I wouldn’t give it up” that was Morah.

  4. She was my Morah as well. Whenever I would take leave of her after a visit, she would say that she will not say goodbye because she never says goodbye…..

  5. She was my Morah too. Fifteen years ago, she was the last person in the world to study seriously the Sifrei Shiurei Daas. I phoned her up from Israel with a question on a Shiur Daas. I was referred to her by many Telzer Lamdonim who said that nobody are learning Shiurei Daas anymore except for her. Today, Boruch Hashem, she engineered a revival of the interest in the Sefer through her son-in-law Rabbi Finkel.
