It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Gittel Kaplan a”h of Yerushalayim. She passed away a day before her 50th birthday.

She was the wife of Rav Nissan Kaplan, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Daas Aharon, rov of Givat Hamivtar, and former longtime R”M at Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.

Rebbetzin Kaplan was born on 22 Cheshvan, 1971, a daughter of Rav Avrohom and Rebbetzin Sarah Gurwicz, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Bais Yosef of Gateshead.

The rebbetzin and her husband resided in Har Nof. Throughout her lifetime, she was a pillar of support to Rav Nissan, allowing him to devote himself to limud haTorah and harbotzas haTorah.

For many years, Rebbetzin Kaplan worked for Ichud Hatzolah, demonstrating tremendous dedication to the life-saving organization.

The rebbetzin battled illness for a while, and, at the advice of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, a name, Yente, was added earlier this week to generate zechusim for her recovery. She passed away Tuesday morning.

The rebbetzin is survived by her husband, Rav Nissan; her father, Rav Avrohom Gurwicz; and eleven children, seven of whom are not yet married.

The levayah will be held today in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichrah boruch.

  1. So sorry to hear, what heart-breaking news.
Note to editor – her age/DOB should be corrected in the story. She can’t be both a day short of 50 and born in 1971, the math doesn’t work.
