candleIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rebbetzin Leah Yoffe a”h. Rebbetzin Yoffe was the wife of Rav Baruch Ber Yoffe, rov of Congregation Sons of Israel-Park Avenue, The Old Shul, in Lakewood, NJ.

Rebbetzin Yoffe was 72 years old and had battled illness for the past few years.

Rav and Rebbetzin Yoffe are old-time residents of Lakewood, having gotten married in 1963. Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l passed away during their engagement. Rav Moshe Feinstein served as their mesader kiddushin.

Rebbetzin Yoffe was a devoted eizer kenegdo to Rav Yoffe, who joined Bais Medrash Govoha in 1965, learning under the rosh yeshiva, Rav Shneur Kotler zt”l, and several years laterbegan teaching at the local Hebrew Day School and became the principal of Congregation Sons of Israel’s afternoon Talmud Torah. He later assumed the position of rov at the shul on Park Avenue.

Rebbetzin Yoffe was a humble, modest aishes chayil, who together with her husband established a home permeated with Torah values. As Rav Yoffe was occupied with numerous communal duties, including serving as mara d’asra of a shul; serving as chaplain at various local facilities, including Leisure Chateau, Atlantic Coast, Fountain View and Kimball Medical Center; and in his work on the chevra kadisha, Rebbetzin Yoffe was a pillar of support and a model to bnos Yisroel in how an aim b’Yisroel is to appear and conduct herself.

The levaya will take place at the Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel off of East 7th Street at 3 p.m., followed by kevurah.

Yehi zichrah boruch.

  1. Reb. Yoffe was a wonderful person; always cheerful with a quick witted sense of humor. She was a giving person and was always eagerly available to help anyone who needed her listening ear or motherly advice.
    Yehi zichra baruch.

  2. Her maiden name was Nitzlich. She was a sister to Rebetzin Steinwurzel who was also a Nitzlich and to Rabbi Mottel Nitzlich who worked for Torah Vodaas for many, many years and lives in Monsey.
