It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Miriam Jurkansky a”h of Lakewood, NJ. She was 64 years old.
Rebbetzin Jurkansky was the wife of Rav Avrohom Jurkansky, longtime senior member of Bais Medrash Govoah and one of the noted talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah at the yeshiva.
Rebbetzin Jurkansky was a daughter of Rav Dov Schwartzman zt”l, late rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Hatalmud of Yerushalayim.
The rebbetzin was an isha chashuvah who was the consummate eizer kenegdo, standing at her husband’s side and allowing him to engage in his limud and harbotzas haTorah for decades. Her tefillah and modesty, accompanied by her sterling middos, selflessness and constant chesed, rendered her a model for others to follow and emulate.
The rebbetzin influenced and inspired numerous bnos Yisroel at local Lakewood mosdos with her hashkafah and divrei chizuk.
The rebbetzin leaves behind a family of talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah: her husband, Rav Avrohom, and their children and grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Rav Yaakov Eliezer Schwartzman, Rav Zevulun Schwartzman, Rav Isser Zalman Schwartzman, Rav Yitzchok Schwartzman, and her sisters, the wives of Rav Yeruchem Olshin, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash Govoah, Rav Yisroel Neuman, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash Govoah, Rav Yosef Strasser, Rav Yair Bak, Rav Gavriel Sheinberger, Rav Dovid Broner and Rav Dovid Slutch.
The levayah will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at Bais Medrash Govoah, located at 617 6th Street in Lakewood, NJ. The aron will then be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah there.
Yehi zichroh boruch.
