Rebbetzin Rochel Mayer a”h

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Rochel Mayer a”h.

Rebbetzin Mayer was the wife of Rav Dovid Hersh Mayer, founding rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Binyamin of Stamford, CT.

Rav Dovid Hersh was a son of Mrs. Leah Mayer, who was the main character in a famous story of a woman who demanded a knife for her newborn son as she was being taken away to a concentration camp; she then circumcised her 8-day child. The child was Rav Dovid Hersh’s older brother, Menashe. The family survived and moved to America. Rav Dovid Hersh learned at the Nitra Yeshiva in Mount Kisco, NY, and then in Lakewood, and went on to found Yeshiva Bais Binyamin in 1977.

Rebbetzin Mayer was an isha chashuvah in her own right who personified the regal and refined nature of an aim b’Yisroel, always carrying herself with great dignity and modesty, and serving as the consummate eizer kenegdo to her illustrious husband, standing at his side and allowing him to engage in his endeavor of harbotzas haTorah for decades.

The levayah will be held today at 2 p.m. at Yeshiva Bais Binyomin, located at 51 Carlton Road in Monsey, NY.
