Rebbetzin Rochel Rivka Zimmerman a”h

candle-small3It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rebbetzin Rochel Rivka Zimmerman a”h, wife of Rav Chaim Zimmerman zt”l. The Rebbetzin passed away on Monday at her Yerushalayim home at age 88. The levaya was held at Shamgar Chapels in Yerushalayim and kevurah took place on on Har Hamenuchos, next to the kever of her husband, Rav Chaim, who was niftar on 7 Adar II 5755.

The Rebbetzin was a daughter of Rabbi and Mrs. Magnus and a daughter-in-law of Rav Yaakov Moshe and Rebbetzin Esther Gittel Zimmerman. Rebbetzin Esther Gittel was a niece of the Kamenitzer rosh yeshiva, Rav Boruch Ber Leibowitz zt”l. Rebbitzen Rochel Rivkah was a sister-in-law of Rav Yehudah Diskind zt”l, who passed away last month in New York.

The five children of Rebbetzin Zimmerman a”h are sitting shivah at the nifteres’ home, located at 65 Rechov Kadima in Ramot, Yerushalayim, until Sunday morning.

Yehi zichrah boruch.

  1. Did she accomplish nothing in her 88 years? Is the only reason to mention her because of her late husband, father in law, uncles and others? Why not say something about her! It is very telling of your approach that absent these others, she did not exist. Her entire raison de etre is based on the yichus of others. Sad.

  2. I know the family very well. She raised a wonderful, outstanding family, every child and grandchild a diamond.
If I am not mistaken, Rabbi Yaakov Moshe’s sister was married to Rav Baruch Ber, which would make Rav Chaim a nephew of Rav Baruch Ber.

  3. Comment #1 is correct: Rebitzen Esther Gittl Zimmerman, Reb Chaim Zimmerman’s mother, was not the neice of Reb Baruch Ber; Reb Baruch Ber was married to the sister of Rav Yakov Moshe Zimmerman; thus Reb Chaim was the nephew of Reb Baruch Ber.

Comment #2 of heavy heart makes no sense. The obituary is not a life history of Rebitzen Zimmerman, and her yichus and being “aishet chaver” of one of the Gedolei Hador of our time
is certainly enough to merit an obit, and does not diminish from her own “raison de etre” one iota.

  4. Baruch dayan emess. I am a great-grandson of R Meir Halevi Zimmerman zsl. R Meir was the older (indeed oldest) brother of R Yaakov Moshe zsl. I would be interested in making contact with the mishpocho to be menachem aveil (even at this late stage).
