candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the petirah of Rebbetzin Toby Schreier a”h, who passed away on Sunday, Erev Rosh Hashanah. Rebbetzin Schreier was the devoted wife of Rabbi Max N. Schreier, the rov of the Avenue N Jewish Center in Brooklyn for the past fifty years, and a past president of the RCA and Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchonon.

Rebbetzin Schreier is survived by her husband, Rav Max; her brother, Rabbi Michoel Raitzik; and her children, R’ Josh Schreier, R’ Avi Schreier, R’ Dov Schreier,  R’ Benjy Schreier, R’ Shapsi Schreier, R’ Ari Schreier, R’ Zev Schreier and Mrs. Leah Kochanowitz.

Rabbi Schreier and his children will be sitting shivah until Tuesday morning at 1439 East 3rd Street, between Avenues M and N, in Brooklyn. Rabbi Raitzik will be sitting in New York at the above address today, Thursday, from noon to 7 p.m.

  1. Brothers also include RAbbi Arye Raitzik and Rabbi Chaim Raitzik. All three Raitzik brothers live in Chicago. Their father (and father of the nifteres) R Shabsi Raitzik was one of the very first baalei batim who stuck his neck for for the sake of Torah when Telshe Yeshiva arrived in Chicago in 1960 to a less than warm reception from some segments of the community.

  2. 1. Rebetzin Schreier a”h was a machnisat orchim of the higest level.
    2. That should be Harav Josh Schreier , not just R’ Josh.
