The Old City’s Migdal Dovid is to open a temporary exhibit named “A General and A Gentleman, Allenby at the Gates of Yerushalayim.”
The exhibit will include reenactments of the moment when General Allenby declared British rule in the city in 1917. Communal dignitaries and the present Viscount Allenby of Megiddo and Felixstowe, heir to Allenby’s title, will be in attendance.
Rare archive films of the British Mandate period will be available, and visitors will converse with the curators, historians and relatives of Allenby and Maj.-Gen John Shea, who accepted Yerushalayim’s surrender.
