national-weekend-of-remembranceThe date for the National Weekend of Remembrance has been changed so it will not conflict with Rosh Hashanah. The weekend to honor fallen soldiers, which had originally been scheduled for Sept. 18-19, will now be held a week later, on Sept. 25-26, the Washington Jewish Week reported. Rosh Hashanah begins on Sept. 18.

The schedule change comes after Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) and more than 25 Democratic and Republicancolleagues sent a letter urging the White House Commission on Remembrance to make the change so every military family, regardless of religious affiliation, could participate. The executive director of the commission, Carmella LaSpada, took responsibility for the error.

“The error was made on my part; it was a human error and it was unintentional,” she told the WJW. “I am sorry for it, and we are making up for it.”
