US Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) apologized via conference call to Jewish groups on Tuesday for her antisemitic tweets last week that blamed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the largest pro-Israel lobbying organization, of paying members of Congress to back Israel.

“Let me reiterate my sincere apology for any actual hurt my words have caused,” said Omar, according to someone present on the off-the-record call, reported the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “I know there are a lot of people who in the last weeks have expressed support in trying to say this isn’t antisemitic or this shouldn’t be looked at in that way.”

The call included the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Democratic Council of America, Americans for Peace Now, the refugee resettlement organization HIAS and Bend the Arc.

On Feb. 11, Omar replied to a Twitter post by journalist Glenn Greenwald about House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) “[threatening punishment for [Omar] and [Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib] over their criticisms of Israel.”

“It’s stunning how much time US political leaders spend defending a foreign nation, even if it means attacking free speech rights of Americans,” he added.

Omar retweeted Greenwald’s post, adding “It’s all the Benjamins baby.”

Batya Ungar-Sargon, opinion editor for The Forward, responded: “Would love to know who @IlhanMN thinks is paying American politicians to be pro-Israel, though I think I can guess. Bad form, Congresswoman.”

Without specifying, she added, “That’s the second anti-Semitic trope you’ve tweeted.”

Replying to Ungar-Sargon, Omar, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, tweeted: “AIPAC!”
Amid backlash from both Democrats and Republicans, along with outside pressure, Omar publicly apologized for her remarks.

  1. What she said : “Let me reiterate my sincere apology for any actual hurt my words have caused,”
What she means: (what I said was not wrong, but people got hurt, so here’s a fake apology)

What she said : “I know there are a lot of people who in the last weeks have expressed support in trying to say this isn’t antisemitic or this shouldn’t be looked at in that way.”
What she means: (Jews are over reacting to my comments, they should understand that I have loads of friends who say the same things as I do.)

What she said : “It’s stunning how much time US political leaders spend defending a foreign nation, even if it means attacking free speech rights of Americans,”
What she means: (It sickens me that Jews have so much power)(I know I can’t say I hate Jews, but I can pretend this is about free speech(of course if its about radical muslims, then free speech is no excuse)

This is the same person who claims that al qaeda should not be considered bad. Who defends hezbollah and supports hamas.(yet still is a “great friend” of Jews)

  2. In Rep. Omar’s opinion neither she nor what she tweeted should be regarded as anti-Semitic. It’s the filthy, rotten Jews who are spreading these vicious lies.

    • Sadly, you’ve described her accurately. This evil woman is just beginning her term. It is unlikely we have heard the last of her. May her downfall come soon.

  3. I’m very concerned, at this point, about backlash from the Frum community. Please stop reporting these negative stories and comments.

Your filthy mouth smells from rabid antisemitism similar to Omar. America is the land of freedom and coexistence. Peiple you and Omar should leave and go to countries like Afghanistan and Syria where your words won’t bother anyone.” Your rhetoric has no place in this country!!!

  5. Not only did she apologize but she voted twice for a resolution containing this language:

    (11) It is in the national security interest of the United States to combat anti-Semitism around the world because—

    (A) anti-Semitism is a challenge to the basic principles of tolerance, pluralism, and democracy, and the shared values that bind Americans together;

    (B) there has been a significant amount of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel hatred that must be most strongly condemned; and

    (C) there is an urgent need to ensure the safety and security of Jewish communities, including synagogues, schools, cemeteries, and other institutions.

    (12) It is in the foreign policy interest of the United States to continue to emphasize the importance of combating anti-Semitism in our bilateral and multilateral relations, including with the United Nations, European Union institutions, Arab League, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

    (13) Because it is important to the national security interest of the United States to maintain strong bipartisan support for Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, all attempts to delegitimize and deny Israel’s right to exist must be denounced and rejected.

    (14) It is in the national security interest of the United States to oppose restrictive trade practices or boycotts fostered or imposed by any foreign country against other countries friendly to the United States or against any United States person.

    • Not only has she made numerous anti Jewish statements, when confronted about them, she has only made it worse by first responding that her comments are not wrong.

Only when forced, has she made patently weak “apologies” which only say that she is sorry people were offended, not that she her comments are actually wrong. These fake apologies only show her lack of real remorse.
