Report: Hamas Draft’s Letter to Trump Offering To Release Half of the Hostages Immediately

Hamas has prepared a letter addressed to President Donald Trump proposing to release half of the 48 hostages still being held in Gaza in return for a 60-day truce, according to a Fox News report on Monday.

Officials familiar with the matter said the document is presently in Qatar’s possession and is likely to be passed on to the Trump administration in the coming days. One senior administration source confirmed the development, while another corroborated that assessment.

Barak Ravid of Axios noted he has also received similar information from his contacts, though he emphasized that Hamas leaders have not formally signed the draft yet.

The news of this letter surfaces just after the IDF began a fresh offensive inside Gaza City, considered the group’s final military bastion.

Of the 48 hostages still unaccounted for in Gaza, estimates suggest that roughly 20 remain alive.

President Trump has repeatedly called for the unconditional return of all captives. On Saturday, while speaking to reporters, he commented on the tragic toll of those killed.

“There are 32 dead, maybe more, perhaps 38. There are between 32 and 38. Most of them are young. I spoke with some of the parents and they want the bodies of their precious children. It’s so sad. It’s terrible. We have nearly 40 deceased hostages. Many of them died in tunnels,” Trump said.

At the same time, Trump added, “There are probably 20 hostages alive, maybe fewer. Most are in tunnels, but I’ve already gotten some of them out. As you know, I released most of the hostages, and about 20 remain alive,” though he did not specify the full figure of those still in Hamas’ hands.

Looking ahead, he voiced cautious optimism about the possibility of further releases, remarking, “Maybe they will be freed. In war, strange things happen — things you never thought would occur. I’ve always said that when you get down to 10 or 20 last living hostages, it will be difficult.”
