Israel is “not interested” in confrontation with Hezbollah, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) official told Al Jazeera on Sunday as tensions on the Lebanese border have peaked over the past week.
“We will respond in force to any attack by Hezbollah, and infrastructure in Lebanon will be among our targets,” the anonymous source warned.
But the military official stressed that Jerusalem’s main concern lies with preventing Iran’s establishment in Syria, therefore “we do not intend to conduct a preemptive strike against Hezbollah or Lebanon,” he noted.
