north-korea-kim-jong-unWhat kind of gift does a dictator give his senior officials for his own birthday? Copies of another famous dictator’s manifesto, of course.

According to the North Korean news organization New Focus International, which gets its information from volunteer citizens and North Korean defectors, Kim Jong-un distributed copies of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf to high-ranking officials for his birthday back in January.

The Nazi leader’s memoir was meant not as an endorsement of Hitler’s party but as a historic example of the simultaneous military and economic development Kim seeks for his own country.

A source told New Focus: “Mentioning that Hitler managed to rebuild Germany in a short time following its defeat in World War One, Kim Jong-un issued an order for the Third Reich to be studied in depth and asked that practical applications be drawn from it.” Read more at New Focus International.
