The head of the right-wing Likud party Bibi Netanyahu reportedly formed a deal with the chareidi parties on Friday to raise the stipends given to students of Jewish theology schools known as yeshivas.

Netanyahu will receive the mandate to form a coalition from President Isaac Herzog and will most likely include chareidi parties United Torah Judaism and Shas in his coalition.

According to a Channel 12 news report, the stipends given to Orthodox men who spend their days studying will be raised to $380 instead of the current $205. This would cost the Israeli taxpayers an additional $439 million.

The Shas and United Torah Judaism pushed for the raise with support from the far-right Religious Zionism party. However, they will probably be rebuffed by the High Court of Justice, which has objected to granting stipends solely for the chareidim.

Former prime minister Naftali Bennett also criticized the raise in yeshiva stipends, claiming it is neither moral nor practical, according to the report.

“Increasing allowances for yeshiva students… is a serious economic and moral error that will harm chareidi youth, the public’s attitude towards the Torah, and the future of the State of Israel.”

“This is because the increased allowances will encourage more young people not to go out to work or study a profession because it is more convenient to stay seated.”

“The ultra-Orthodox are our brothers, and they are the fastest growing population in Israel, therefore, their responsibility toward the state must increase accordingly,” Bennett said. -24 News

    • How much is wearing a kippa a sign of religiousity ,
And by comparison how much is it little more than a social, cultural, or political, statement?

  1. Why is stealing from the population a cause for celebration? I don’t care how noble the cause is! This is a chilul Hashem!! If you want Kollelim and Yeshivos so support them from your own money. You’re gonna say but hey the state is anyways taxing everyone and giving the money to all schools and institutions so we may as well, right? Wrong! When the state was founded and the Chareidim were a super minority so maybe then with a Horaas Shaa you can take for the sake of survival. Don’t be fooled by campaign slogans, there is no real threat to the Torah world, lets be honest we ain’t going nowhere. Lets stop being small minded, it’s time to LEAD. The opportunity is here and now. Show the world what a true Torah country looks like. The Government is not your father, grandmother or babysitter! Tzedaka in the Torah is ALWAYS a personal responsibility to be given directly to the poor. Not to governments aka corruption.
Socialism, aka government wealth redistribution is a watered down version of communism which was borne out of and still practiced by the most atheist of countries (China, N. Korea, Pre-war Russia).

Rabbosai we need to demand a 180 degree policy turnaround. Enough with empty “Gevald” and identity politics. If we say were a party that cares about Torah so then we should ACT like the Torah way, not use corrupt communist ideas to fund Torah. Israel was founded on communism/socialism and although has made tremendous progress becoming one of the world’s strongest economies in the world, there is so much more that needs to be done! There are more Yeshiva educated, Kippa wearing, Shomrei Shabbos good fine Yidden in the upcoming Knesset than ever before, they’re actually the overwhelming majority. Who knows when the next such opportunity will arise? We must take advantage of it. Take example from Moshe Rabbeinu and Shmuel Hanavi the greatest leaders in our history. Their mantra was “never did I take even one of your donkeys” while currently every donkey (car) purchase in Israel involves the government stealing another one from you to “fund important public services” The Neviim go on and on about all Hashem really wants from us: Tedek and Mishpat. Capitalism on its own may be a failure. Socialism is the road to hell paved with good intentions. The Torah was mechadesh a 3rd balanced and approach, that the government (almost always) stays away from other people’s money and transfers the responsibility to feed and cloth the poor directly to the people themselves. The World has yet to see the sucess and beauty that such a society will bring forth. We have been waiting to return to Eretz Yisroel for 2000 years and once again make Yerushalaim that “Ir Hatzedek”. Tzion bMishpat tipadeh, lets give it our all to make this happen bMehira bYameinu Amein!

    • Stop with the heresy.

The Zionist State never was, is not and never will be a “true Torah country” and also not the more popular misconception “Jewish State”.

The Zionists invaded parts of E”Y and have been making life miserable for the Torah Jews there ever since. As long as the Zionists refuse to allow the Jews to work unless they shmad themselves in the church of Zionism’s IDF indoctrination/shmad center, then the Zionists are obligated to pay a decent wage to those Jews.

Regardless, the Zionists are, unfortunately, being smart in paying for Torah, because the more they pay, the greater zechus they unfortunately have. But that shmad “State” will, sooner or later, disappear into the dust-bin of history, regardless.

  2. “The ultra-Orthodox are our brothers, and they are the fastest growing population in Israel, therefore, their responsibility toward the state must increase accordingly,” Bennett said.

The Torah Jews have zero responsibility to the invading Zionists whom the Torah Jews begged to go away and not invade.

Moreover, if the Zionists would remove the draft, and not just sometimes grant exemptions after the Zionists harass these Jews at their induction centers, then many more Torah Jews would work, just as they do all around the world.

    • If the judges are self appointed, including the judges in the hi-court-of-injustice, who has the power to get rid of them and dismantle the courts?

  3. Hurray for BiBi!
We have a short memory. It wasn’t that long ago when BiBi was responsible for taking away the thousands of shekels that the avreichim were receiving for each child. In those days a mother could stay home and fulfill her role of taking care of the children she brought into the world.
Now we champion the politicians for adding a few dollars to our miserable stipend, the same ones who previously stabbed us in the back–specifically Bibi.
