Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is weighing a potential presidential run in 2028, according to a report released Friday.

The progressive congresswoman, a prominent member of the “Squad,” has been working to expand her profile both within New York and across the nation as she considers her next political move, Axios reported, citing individuals familiar with her planning.

Sources told the outlet that Ocasio-Cortez and her advisers are exploring two possibilities — a bid for the Senate or a campaign for the White House.

This summer, Ocasio-Cortez appeared alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders on his “Fighting Oligarchy” national tour while also hosting town halls across upstate New York.

In addition, the Bronx and Queens representative has funneled millions into strengthening her digital presence, compiling supporter databases, and boosting her grassroots fundraising network, Axios reported.

The outlet noted that at 35 years old, Ocasio-Cortez has not yet made any firm decision about her future, though her team is focused on ensuring she has multiple options.

Some allies suggest that even if she doubts her chances of securing the nomination, she might still launch a presidential bid to ensure the Democratic Party’s progressive wing has a strong voice in the primaries, much like Sanders did in 2016 against Hillary Clinton.

If she chooses instead to pursue a Senate seat, the likely target would be Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, though he has not confirmed whether he will seek another term.

Schumer secured his fifth Senate term in 2022 with little resistance, facing no serious challenge from the left.

The Post reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional and campaign offices, as well as to Schumer’s spokesperson, for comment.

A close aide to Sanders dismissed doubts about her viability, calling it the “height of arrogance to assume she couldn’t win the 2028 nomination.”

“She has a supporter base that, in many ways, has a larger potential width than Bernie’s,” Ari Rabin-Havt told Axios. “She has been in the glare of the spotlight from day one and has the national campaigning experience a lot of other potential candidates are now trying to get.”

Ocasio-Cortez first gained national attention in 2018 when she defeated longtime Democratic incumbent Joe Crowley in a primary. Since then, she has pushed for sweeping progressive policies such as universal health care and the Green New Deal.

She has also positioned herself as a vocal critic of President Trump, denouncing Israel’s war in Gaza and opposing the deportation of illegal immigrants in the United States.

At times, she has clashed openly with Democratic leaders, most recently criticizing Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for failing to endorse Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor.

Allies again emphasized that even without full confidence in her chances, Ocasio-Cortez may run for president to secure progressive influence in the party’s primary process — an approach reminiscent of Sanders’ impact in 2016.

  1. It would reveal a lot about the DNC supporting a complete dimwit for higher office. She makes an utter fool of herself every time she finds a microphone in her face, whether in congress, public appearances, or in the media. She makes inanimate objects appear brilliant. President? I’m convinced about the voters in her district being imbeciles. Are there that many idiots across America?
