Reporters to Iran President: Stop Lying

hassan-rouhani-iranOne hundred thirty-five Iranian reporters, editors and media workers have published a letter addressed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, urging him to stop lying about the persecution of journalists in Iran.

The letter criticizes Rouhani for responding to CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour’s questions about the imprisonment of Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian with “I really don’t believe the fact at all. I do not believe that an individual would be detained or put in prison for being a journalist.”

IranWire estimates that there are some 65 professional and citizen journalists currently jailed in Iran. Read more.
