On Sunday, the Rishon LeTzion, Rav Dovid Yosef, issued a passionate and unequivocal appeal to the public, urging all parents to vaccinate their children against measles. Against the backdrop of the recent spread of the disease and tragic fatalities, Rav Yosef stressed the halachic obligation to protect life, warning that failure to vaccinate constitutes an act of bloodshed according to Torah law.
In his address, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi declared: “I turn with all my heart to our brothers, the Jewish people: vaccinate all your children against measles. We see with our own eyes that this is a matter of pikuach nefesh.” He did not shy away from forceful language, stating unequivocally: “Parents who do not vaccinate their child are shofchei damim—shedders of blood. Yes, absolutely, according to halacha.”
Rav Yosef emphasized that immunization is not merely a suggestion but a sacred obligation incumbent upon every Jew. He called on families to act without delay in order to prevent further tragedies. “It is a holy duty upon every Jew to vaccinate all children as soon as possible,” he declared. “With Hashem’s help, through this we will save many lives.
