Meirav Leshem Gonen, mother of hostage Romi Gonen, who was recently released from Hamas captivity, gave a revealing interview to Arutz Sheva, scheduled for full broadcast today. In the interview, she explained the reasoning behind her daughter’s choice to observe the first Shabbos after being reunited with her family.

“She chose to observe Shabbos. Observing Shabbosis something that, in its perception and essence, aims for intentionality, connection within the family, and reflection on what is happening here and now,” Leshem Gonen shared.

She continued, “In recent years, our gatherings would take place on Shabbos. So, keeping the Shabbosis very wise in Judaism – each in their own way – it was very important to her. She uses a lot of tools that Judaism provides, and she used them even during captivity together with Emily [Damari], and it’s beautiful in my opinion.”
