Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a leading contender for the 2024 Republican nomination, was involved in a car accident while en route to a campaign event in Tennessee this morning.

Bryan Griffin, DeSantis’ campaign press secretary, informed The Post that the 44-year-old governor and his team emerged “uninjured” from the accident during their journey to Chattanooga. Griffin further expressed gratitude for the nation’s prayers and well-wishes for DeSantis’ safety on the campaign trail.

DeSantis is widely recognized as the primary and most significant competitor to former President Donald Trump, who has been the front-runner in the 2024 Republican race for an extended period. Scheduled to lead a bus tour in Iowa, a key early-voting state, later this week, DeSantis’ presence is significant.

As of this morning, the RealClearPolitics national Republican primary polling average indicated that the Florida governor had secured 18.5% support, trailing Trump by more than 33 percentage points, as he maintained a dominant lead with 51.8%. None of the other candidates managed to achieve double-digit support in the average polling data.

The top five contenders, apart from DeSantis and Trump, included former Vice President Mike Pence with 5.6% support, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy with 5.5%, and former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley with 3.5% support.
