Almost 73 years after the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp, its history will be told in a new travelling exhibition titled “Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away.”

This is the largest such exhibition dedicated to Auschwitz and the Holocaust in history, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum said.

The exhibition will start in Madrid. Over the next seven years, it will visit fourteen cities around the world, seven in Europe and seven in North America.

Covering 27,000 feet, the exhibition displays over six hundred original artifacts, including suitcases, eyeglasses and shoes, the desk of first Auschwitz commandant Rudolfa Hoess, a gas mask used by the camp’s SS garrison, and an original German-made freight wagon of the type used to transport Jews.
