rugelachMonsey, NY – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says a New York company is recalling its rugelach (ROO-ga-lah) pastry because some ingredients labels may have omitted eggs.

Bloch’s Best Inc. of Monsey, N.Y., is recalling a batch of its Laromme Vanilla Rugelach distributed in 14 oz. round containers between Nov. 2 and Dec. 22, 2011. The pastry was distributed in stores in Massachusetts, Maryland and New Jersey.

The FDA says the company traces the problem to a change in the product’s packaging, which omitted the presence of eggs as an ingredient. That can be problematic for people with allergies, and one illness has been reported.

The pastry was distributed under UPC 87062500954-8.

Health departments in some states, including Rhode Island, have issued public advisories about the recall.

  1. The chidush here is that this frum company actually printed ingredients and a nutrition label. Just peruse the shelves of any heimishe market and count the dozens of heimishe products that don’t even bother with such things as a “use by date” code, nutrition fact label and other REQUIRED labeling matters.
