“Rumpelnacht”: Ah Gutten Zummer from Matzav.com

pesach-dishesTonight is known in many circles as “Rumpelnacht,” as the post-Pesach cleanup gets underway (at least in chutz la’aretz; in Eretz Yisroel, Yom Tov concluded yesterday). With pots, pans and dishes all over the place and kitchenware being moved from here to there, the name Rumpelnacht has been found appropriate by some to describe the hectic atmosphere.

So as you “turn back over” from Pesach to chometz, we at Matzav.com wish you bracha and hatzlacha and all the best to your families and loved ones.

We also wish you the customary Motzoei Pesach blessing of “ah gutten zummer” and pray for only the best for all members of Klal Yisroel across the globe.

Next year in Yerushalayim, be’ezras Hashem.

  1. As a 32 year old FFB who grew up in Boro Park, and now live in Lakewood, I can say with certainty that I have never, ever even heard of this term. Rumplenacht?? Seriously?
    Either way, a gezunten zummer to all.

  2. Who is the Yekke around here? Rumpelnacht is the night after Pesach and Kristalnacht (no joke, it’s because that is when the crystal ware for the Seder was taken out) is the night of Bdikas Chametz!

  3. You are jumping the gun. It is not summer yet. Have you not heard of a season called spring (friehling in Yiddish)?

    A gutten or gezunten zummer is something to wish after Shavuos, not right after Pesach. Even though it is (unseasonably) warm today, it is not yet even close to summer.
