Russia Defense Ministry Says To Deploy New Air Defense Systems To Syria

The Russian defense ministry said Wednesday that it plans to deliver new air defense systems to Syria in the near future, Russia’s RIA news agency reported Wednesday, a day after Israel warned that it would retaliate to any attack against it using Russian systems.

The report did not specify which air defense systems Russia was planning to deploy to Syria, where Moscow is propping up embattled forces loyal to President Bashar Al-Assad.

Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that Russia could deploy the advanced S-300 anti-aircraft missile defense system to Syria, following a US-led airstrike on Syrian military sites and another earlier strike on an Iranian-operated air base in Syria widely attributed to Israel.
