Russia: Police Arrest Over 3,000 People At Protests In Support Of Putin Critic Navalny

The Russian police made at least 3,068 arrests during Saturday’s mass protests across the country, OVD Info watchdog reports, including dozens of journalists and over 100 adolescents.

From the Far East to Moscow, thousands took to the streets in Russian cities to protest the detention of Alexei Navalny, an anti-corruption activist detained last week after returning from Germany, where he was recovering from a poisoning attack blamed by Bellingcat independent investigators on Russia’s special services.

In Yakutsk, East Siberia, the demonstrators braved the temperature of about -50 degrees Celcius to come out in support of the opposition figurehead, while in Moscow, according to Reuters, some 40,000 took part in protests.
