The Australian Defense Force says it is monitoring Russian ships in international waters as they have been sighted moving toward the northern part of Australia.
However, the ADF did say that the Russian vessel movement was “entirely consistent with provisions under international law for military vessels to exercise freedom of navigation in international waters” and that they had acted similarly in 2009 during an Apec meeting in Singapore and to accompany former Russian President Medvedev in 2010 during his visit to San Francisco.
