An arson fire was set at the largest yeshiva in Russia just hours before the onset of Pesach. Swastikas were also sprayed on the Toras Chaim.
Olga Esaulova, a spokeswoman for Moscow’s chief rabbi, was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying the fire was set in a storage area for kosher meat and that swastikas were drawn at the yeshiva’s entrance.
There were about 60 students, rabbis and guests in the building at the time, the state news agency RIA-Novosti reported. No one was injured.

An attack on a yeshiva is something we need to take to heart. There is obviously some message which we all need to take out from this event. Bh no one was hurt, and we need need to be thankful for that. However, because it was a Yeshiva which was attacked, in someways it’s unique and different from the classic antisemitic attack. Its an attack on a “main artery”, the life source of the Jewish people, a makom Torah. It’s a message to us, and we can’t just let this pass without a real introspection.
