House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday he doesn’t support the effort to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein by a group of conservative Republicans who filed articles of impeachment the previous night.

“Do I support impeachment of Rod Rosenstein? No, I do not,” Ryan told reporters at his weekly news conference. “I don’t think this rises to high crimes and misdemeanors; that’s a very high standard.”

The move by the conservatives, some of President Donald Trump’s most loyal allies in the House, is based on what they consider months of stonewalling of congressional demands for documents and other material about the investigation of Russian election-meddling and potential involvement by the president’s campaign.

Ryan of Wisconsin said, though, that the Justice Department has been complying with document requests.

If the House were to pass impeachment articles, “this would tie the Senate into knots” when members need to be acting on other matters, Ryan said.

Rosenstein has outlasted months of threats of impeachment or other punitive action, and some lawmakers are predicting he’s in the clear at least for now.

  1. Ryan and Gowdy made a big deal of their ultimatum to get DOJ to finally fork over the key documents being withheld. They told us DOJ had made a commitment. Guess what! DOJ reneged and handed over the minimum of the minimum, with even this edited to protect the guilty insiders. Honest members of Congress had to start on this path toward impeachment within DOJ to get things moving. Now we see Ryan objecting, because he’s one of the weasels. I don’t care how much sincerity Ryan can fake. He’s just Boehner II.

  2. Ryan the Snake is part of the stinky swamp and should have been thrown out as soon Trump was inaugurated. Glad you didn’t post of a picture of him. Just the look of him makes me vomit. Ugh!
