It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the sudden passing this evening of the Sanz-Zmigrader Rebbe of Bnei Brak, Rav Chaim Naftali Aharon Halberstam zt”l.

The Rebbe suffered a heart attack at his home and passed away a short while later.

He was 64 years old.

Paramedics were called to the Rebbe’s home on Rechov Mintz in Bnei Brak at about midnight. They worked to resuscitate the Rebbe, but he passed away as family members and his gabba’im were saying Tehillim.

The Rebbe was born in Eretz Yisroel on 13 Iyar תשי”ב to his father, the Aryeh Sho’ag of Sanz-Zmigrad, who established his bais medrash on Rechov Minhtz in Bnei Brak. After his father’s passing on 17 Teves תשס”ז, he assumed his father’s position.

The Rebbe led his kehillah with great devotion and also drew many Jews closer to their Father in Heaven.

On Sunday, the Rebbe attended the bar mitzvah of his grandson, a son of his son-in-law Rav Mordechai Moses, son of the Kroli Rebbe. Also, last week he attended the wedding of his nephew, the son of his brother, the Sanz-Zmigrad Rebbe of Antwerp, held in Bnei Brak.

There were seemingly no health-related warning signs prior to tonight’s tragic heart attack.

The Rebbe is survived by his brothers, the Sanz-Zmigrad admonim in the US and Antwerp, and a sister.

The levaya will be held at the Sanz-Zmigrader bais medrash in Bnei Brak, followed by kevurah on Har Hazeisim in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichro boruch.
