Issac “Yitzy” Schleifer has emerged victorious in an election for the 5th District City Council Seat in Baltimore City.

Yitzy will serve as the first frum person to hold that position in 70 years.

Yitzy, a life-long Baltimore City resident, promised, in running for City Council, to address pressing matters like lowering property taxes, bringing more good-paying jobs to Baltimore, and reducing crime.

Schleifer is a member of the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee. He is a graduate of the University of Baltimore Merrick School for Business.

He and his wife, Lauren, nee Schuster, are the parents of one child, Maxi J.

Schleifer said that he will explore why other large communities, like Boston, have lower crime rates than Baltimore and what solutions we can duplicate to make Baltimore’s streets safer.

Baltimore has the 5th highest murder rate in the country; a higher property tax rate than all the other 23 jurisdictions in Maryland, and twice as high as the neighboring Baltimore County; and the 6th highest property tax rate among large American cities.
