Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) says he will oppose Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch and urge fellow Democrats to do the same, THE HILL.

Schumer announced today that Democrats will filibuster Gorsuch and force Republicans to muster 60 votes to advance him to a final up-or-down vote.

“He will have to earn 60 votes for confirmation. My vote will be no, and I urge my colleagues to do the same,” he said on the Senate floor. Read more at THE HILL.

  1. Here is a politician for himself alone, what is in it for me alone and how can I become a spoiler. Yes people keep on voting for people like him, politicians all self serving not for the people who voted him in, yes keep on voting for all like him and our government and country will eventually look like dreck.

  2. Any reason why its a no? Why don’t they come up with a reasonable answer so that we can understand them . It just seems like the democrats are just crying and pounding for all they can do say no. If this continues the republicans will just go nuclear and its a real shame that they cant get along for the benefit of our country not party…

  3. Chuckie is impotent, and his party is impotent. If he can muster enough Democrats to prevent a 60-vote majority, the Republicans will invoke the nuclear option, and Gorsuch will be approved by a simple majority.

  4. A hearty “Thank you” to the self-declared “Schumer the Shomer”. You are protecting us from a judge who – although widely regarded as an even, fair jurist – has been discerned by your all-knowing eye as an unfair, biased jurist. How unfortunate that you weren’t as bothered by the threat to the safety of your fellow Jews in Israel who are threatened with a nuclear holocaust by the mad mullahs of Iran.

P.S. Go hobnob with your fellow quislings from J Street, you execrable lump of uselessness.

    • Upon further review, “Quisling” is too strong a term for Schumer and is more appropriate for those who actually support Hamas, Iran and other murderers of Jews.

My intense displeasure and disappointment with Schumer’s weak opposition to the Iran deal and now his extreme partisan political hackery vs. Judge Gorsuch is unchanged.

  5. Schumer is such an ugly human being. Why is he voting no? He didn’t state any reason. What didn’t he like in Mr. Gorsuch’s testimony? You can’t vote no unless you reason to.

  6. I find it very disrespectful to constantly use that terrible picture of Mr. Schumer. Although you and I may not like him and his policies, he is a very powerful member of the government and we are in golus. I would caution Matzav to always remember that we are in golus and that posting things on a website which is open for the world to see is very different than writing something in a heimishe newspaper.

    • I agree. You can vociferously disagree with someone without resorting to second-grade mocking tactics. Although politicians from both parties do the same thing, it’s immature to deliberately publish an unflattering photo of a politician simply because you disagree with him.

  7. Schumer seems to view himself as representing Park Slope Brooklyn Heights and the Upper West Side as opposed to even being aware that many other communities in New York view Judge Gorsuch as eminently qualified for the SCOTUS. That’s what happens when your views approach those of Bernie Sanders and you show up in Torah observant communities at their dinners and communal functions to shnor for votes while claiming with a straight face that he has the back of the Jewish community and Israel.
