Scientists ‘Reeling’ From New Pluto Pics

plutoNew images of Pluto show a variety of landforms that have left scientists “reeling,” including dunes that suggest the dwarf planet may have had a thicker atmosphere.

“Pluto is showing us a diversity of landforms and complexity of processes that rival anything we’ve seen in the solar system,” said New Horizons investigator Alan Stern. “If an artist had painted this Pluto before our fly-by, I probably would have called it over the top—but that’s what is actually there.”

The images are some of the first to emerge from a 16-month download from New Horizons. Read more at The Guardian.
