At least 100 people were taken into custody by police on Thursday afternoon on Capitol Hill after descending on the Hart Senate Office Building to protest the confirmation process of Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.
Loud chants could be heard throughout the Senate building, which is structured so the hallways of each floor open up and look out onto the first floor, where dozens of protesters were staged.
It was not immediately clear how many people had been taken into custody, though one police officer estimated that “hundreds” could be arrested in connection with the protests.
