Gingerbread men have been replaced by gingerbread persons in the Scottish Parliament’s coffee shop in case the traditional name causes offence, the Daily Mail reports.

The move comes as a strategy aimed at stamping out harassment and genderism was introduced this week after a survey found 30 percent of women working in the Scottish Parliament believed they had been harassed.

The decision to rename the sweet treat has not gone down well with everyone.

Scottish Conservative equalities spokesman Annie Wells said: ‘Surely the Scottish Parliament has got better things to do than worry about what to call gingerbread men? This is an utterly pointless gesture which simply trivialises the real issues of gender equality.’

A Scottish Parliament spokesman would not comment except to say: ‘They [the gingerbread persons] were delicious and sold out.’

  1. So peopley of these depeopleted wopeople with peopletal and peopleic disorder depeopleded ginger breadpeople and peoplegos for their peopleu from the peopleager. Are the Scotts hupeople? Are they trying to peopleipulate peoplekind perpeopleently and dehupeopleize it?

    • This is the language the Scottish and perhaps other countries are trying to replace it with – to replace “man” “men” from every word.

  2. Have a cup of tea. Have a cookie. Still diabetes ahead. Man or person. Its a cake batch to know. Watch the cake. Diabetes worried.

    Cook it Scotland.

  3. I thought that a “man” nowadays could have any gender, or reassign a gender, or decide to be gender neutral. This is an affront to the Gingerbread to assume its gender.

Actually, its offensive to call it GINGERbread, as many ginger people would be offended.

Additionally, I feel it is abusive to call gingerBREAD as it is neither soft, nor a bread.

Therefore, in conclusion, I have decided that it should now be called: Ginger-flavored-cookie-shaped-person.

  4. Good idea. Unaccompanied gingerbread men sharing the same box are suspected of mishkav mezonos.

The “Ginger” is still a problem, as the nutmeg is likely to feel excluded. “Spice People” is the preferred term.

All that’s left to do: get the Spice People some musical instruments, and let ’em make non-offensive music.
