Claims that two senior Secret Service agents drove a government car into a White House security barricade on March 4 after drinking at a party are being investigated, according to agency officials who spoke with The Washington Post.

One of the two reportedly involved is a top member of the president’s security detail. Officers on duty wanted the agents to undergo sobriety tests, but a supervisor ordered them to let the agents go home, said a government official who spoke to the Post.

Secret Service spokesman Brian Leahy confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general was investigating the incident and that the Secret Service was “aware of the allegations of misconduct involving two of our employees.”

The Secret Service has faced a string of scandals in recent years, raising concerns about some agents’ professionalism and competency, and forcing Director Julia Pierson’s resignation last year. Read more at the Washington Post.
