Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican known for his close relationship with President Donald Trump, voiced opposition to any push that would force Israel to stop the fighting before Hamas is thoroughly defeated. His comments came amid claims that the Trump administration is working to persuade Israel to make concessions in pursuit of a negotiated settlement.

“When it comes to terrorist threats, Israel must be allowed to defend itself and finish the job,” Graham wrote on X.

He explained that while he backs the broader effort to reduce combat in Gaza and advance a new regional framework, it has to be done in a way that guarantees security. “While I strongly support trying to end major military operations in Gaza and moving toward a new Middle East, it is imperative that this is accomplished in the right way,” he added.

The senator made clear that Hamas must be permanently neutralized before any ceasefire can be acceptable. “I do not support ending major military operations if it means that Hamas is not eliminated forever and does not ensure that there will never be another October 7. From my point of view, Israel is not the problem; It is Iran and its proxies that are the problem,” Graham declared.

His remarks followed an Axios report quoting a Trump adviser engaged in the administration’s peace blueprint. According to that adviser, should Netanyahu refuse to sign onto the plan now on the table, Washington will hold him responsible for prolonging the bloodshed, “enabling Hamas and doing nothing for the Palestinians who have so many humanitarian needs. People will continue to starve. Let’s hope we get there.”

The same official also stressed that the Arab states are firmly behind the proposal: “The Arabs have agreed to it like 100%. Now we’re waiting for the president to work his magic on Netanyahu,” the adviser added.
