Senate Republicans have chosen John Thune of South Dakota to head the party for the upcoming two years, taking over from Mitch McConnell, who holds the record for the longest-serving leader in Senate history from either party.
Thune, who has held the position of Republican whip since 2019, narrowly defeated John Cornyn from Texas by a vote of 29-24 in the second round.
Florida Senator Rick Scott, who had gained strong support from the party’s hard-right wing, was eliminated after the first round, securing only 13 votes, compared to Cornyn’s 15 and Thune’s 23.

So now the poor guy is the designated scapegoat anytime Trump messes up. Trump and co never acknowledge failure so there always has to be an internal enemy that his failure can be blamed on. To be clear I voted for Trump and am happy he won.
