Senators are discussing a potential censure resolution against former President Trump as it becomes increasingly clear that his second impeachment trial is likely to end in acquittal.
A spokesperson for Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) confirmed that he is discussing the issue with GOP Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) as well as with his Senate colleagues more broadly.
Axios first reported on Tuesday that Kaine and Collins were pitching their colleagues on the idea of a censure resolution. Spokespeople for Collins didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about the conversations.

The article in the Hill goes on to say that “Kaine is also among a group of Democrats floating trying to bar Trump from future office through the 14th Amendment. That, like a censure resolution, could pass the Senate with only 60 votes compared with impeachment’s two-thirds requirement.” The crafty Kaine, who was Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016, wants Trump out of the way. Hopefully, the RINOS – who may want to run for the Presidency themselves, or who may feel that a second-term President Trump would not endorse them in their future congressional elections – will not side with Kaine.
It should also be noted that some are asserting that, if Trump were convicted through the 14th amendment, it could possibly affect the pardons he issued in his last days in office since those pardons were issued after the Capitol Hill protests, the so-called insurrection that he caused, for which the Dems wish to convict Trump. This opinion seems twisted to me, for ultimately Trump was President at the time, and a conviction can’t retroactively remove his past status as President. But leave it to crooked minds to rationalize a crooked logic.
Very good observation. Of course, this twisted crooked logic now is simply the “tail end” of their entire long, long line of excessive irrational sick twisted crooked NON-logic they have had from Day 1. It started in their extreme Sinas Chinam of President Trump and has thickly continued all the way up through their massive fabrication of the Biden election so-called “win” and then their Jan 6 staging of the breaking into the Capitol building to frame President Trump for the crime that they were the ones who committed.
