
US President Joe Biden’s administration announced Wednesday that two of his top aides will meet for the first time with their Chinese counterparts in Alaska next week, as the two Pacific superpowers size each other up in what will be one of the defining geopolitical contests of his tenure.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will hold talks in Anchorage on March 18 with their counterparts Wang Yi and Yang Jiechi.
The summit will immediately follow Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s trip to Japan and South Korea and as Austin separately heads to another of Chinese regional rivals, India.
